AAFP 2009 Home Study CME Program Updated & Upgraded by CME Pilot

2010 Programming Underway

CMEpilot recently completed the electronic development of the American Academy of Family Physician's (AAFP) 2009 FP ComprehensiveTM CD-ROM product with a new look and branding, new content and pre- and post-tests converted from print. The product carries optional CME credit for the 12 newest FP EssentialsTM.

"We selected CMEpilot to update our home-study program and upgrade its functionality, because of the company's experience in developing e-learning applications for CME," says Connie Strattan, Multimedia Producer, AAFP. "That included development of many CD-ROM titles and creating overall internet delivery solutions. We found working long distance was as easy as making phone calls and uploading files. Interim and final deadlines were met consistently."

The 2009 FP ComprehensiveTM CD-ROM combines six years of AAFP's full-text FP EssentialsTM monographs that each contain practice questions and 18 printer-friendly practice tests, making a total of 2500 questions and answers on the disc. There are options for earning up to 90 CME credits available. The program uses a robust search engine and contextual help to provide learners easy access to content throughout. Content is printer-friendly, as are the practice test questions and answers. The program is designed to help family physicians and other learners maintain competence, meet CME requirements, and prepare for the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) recertification exam.

New features of the program include test history, so users easily can see what they have and have not answered. At the end of each test, they receive their score, their answers, and correct answers with a brief explanation and a link to the reference material -- a function also available before or after answering the practice test questions. Users also have the option of creating their own tests by indicating categories they want to study and the number of questions they want to review.

"We're pleased to offer our subscribers the new 2009 FP EssentialsTM in an easy-to-use format for study anywhere -- at home, in the office or hospital, or traveling," Ms. Strattan says. "The first FP EssentialsTM were introduced in 1995 as print monographs. Our first CD ROM was released in 2004. Subsequent versions continue to meet our subscribers growing expectations, because we continue to take their comments and suggestions into consideration as we develop new releases."

The CD-ROM can be purchased from the AAFP online catalog. As AAFP members begin using this year's program, CMEpilot's work on an even more extensive 2010 home study program already is underway.
